WONDERFUL Royal Crown Derby bone china tea cup and saucer, made in England. The cup is in traditional style with scalloped lip and D-style handle. The saucer, on the other hand, is extremely detailed with a squared scalloped design and a deep base. The cup measures 2 1/2" high and 3" across. The saucer measures 5 1/2" across with a depth of approximately 1". It is interesting to note that the floral bouquets carry the same or similar flowers, but the pattern is not repeated on the cup or the saucer - as if the artist wanted to create the impression of floral bouquets from the same garden, but made them all different to accent various areas of the estate.
The backstamp on this lovely piece suggests it was made between 1930-1940, and is in a red coloring. However, the lack of a Roman numeral date stamp indicates this set to be pre- 1938, when the numeral date stamp was initiated. The registration number on this set - Reg. No. 758225 pattern # 9875F - would seem to place the cup in the year 1930 for manufacture. The saucer also has an incised mark and Derby. The set is in very good condition, no wear noted.
